Arms Theft Reported at Military Storage Facility in Pretoria

(MENAFN) Weapons, including three R4 rifles and a grenade launcher, were reported stolen following a suspected break-in at a South African National Defence Force (SANDF) facility located at Tek Base in Lyttelton, Pretoria. The incident was confirmed by military authorities on Wednesday.

According to an official statement released the following day, the break-in is believed to have taken place and was only identified on April 27 at around midday.

”A member of the South African National Defence Force discovered a break-in at a storeroom upon returning from an official funeral in Mafikeng, North West,” the statement said.

Investigators found that the storeroom’s security door had been forced open. Early assessments suggest that intruders may have accessed the site by cutting through the perimeter fence before removing the weapons, which include three R4 rifles and a grenade launcher.

A case of business burglary has been opened, while authorities are still conducting checks to determine whether any other equipment or materials are missing from the site.

The investigation remains ongoing, and updates are expected to be released as more information becomes available, according to reports.
