NATO Chief Calls for Faster Defense Production, Innovation

(MENAFN) NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has emphasized that speeding up defense production and innovation across member states is critical for strengthening deterrence and safeguarding collective security.

According to reports, Rutte made the remarks at the Transatlantic Defense Industry Access Forum held at NATO headquarters in Brussels, where he addressed defense industry representatives and officials.

He urged defense companies to increase output and accelerate delivery of military capabilities in response to rising global security challenges.

Rutte told attendees, “When you, all of you, produce more, our deterrence and defence posture is stronger, and we are all safer,” speaking to representatives from more than 50 US firms and Belgian industry partners.

He added that financial commitments to defense spending would not be sufficient without a parallel expansion in industrial capacity to meet growing operational demands.

Referring to the alliance’s target of investing 5% of GDP in defense, agreed at last year’s NATO summit in The Hague, Rutte said the upcoming summit in Ankara next month should focus on tangible military capabilities and strengthening defense production output.
